xAPI Enablement

Meet your LXD

Learning Experience Design (LXD) systems, such as Cassava, enable organizations to transcend the limitations of traditional Learning Management Systems (LMS) and deliver workplace training via channels that are more aligned with today's increasingly hybrid and remote work environments without compromising compliance and regulatory standards. The xAPI specification enables LXDs to run training programs outside an LMS while maintaining it as the source of truth for user engagement tracking. This workflow utilizes a Learning Resource Store (LRS) to capture engagement activities that occur outside the LMS. Is it just me, or are there a lot of three-letter acronyms in this space? Let us explore how all of these systems come together in Cassava.

Good to know, but how does xAPI come into play? Glad you ask. Organizations configure their LRS of choice with Cassava via the Settings menu. We then incrementally post user activity in the form of xAPI statements to this resource.

xAPI Configuration

A sample xAPI statement is provided below for illustration. Each statement specifies an action that a user performs on an object. Cassava uses five verbs to capture the actions a user can take over the course of a training program, viz:

initialized
launched
experienced
answered
completed
xAPI Statement

That's all, folks! With xAPI enablement in Cassava, you can supercharge the engagement of your workplace training programs by conducting them outside your LMS without losing control over the location and structure of user interactions.
